HOPE- The Superpower.
“Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare to make dreams into reality.” – Jonas Salk
Hope, a very dreadful feeling, especially for the impatient and people who seem to be drowning in the sea of life’s troubles. Let me share a short story, and I hope it inspires someone.
At 32, Segun wasn’t anywhere close to where his mates were; he wasn’t his “mates’ mate” he often wondered what was wrong with him. The harder Segun tried to find the root cause of his problems, the deeper he went into such issues. He still lived with his folks, and he no longer had the respect of both his parents and his sibling, although he was the first child. Everyone saw him as a “lazy man.” If he was sincere with himself, he had his faults as a person too. But it was said that “the universe doesn’t just pick to be unfair towards a person; the person had to create the avenue to be chosen first.” When he was much younger, Segun, wasted most of his time, playing and fiddling away with his future, he didn’t set a good foundation for himself. At the same time, his mates worked hard to create a life for themselves, Segun idled away. He spent most of his days, partying, or playing games or womanizing, which had become a career for him, Afterall he had the looks. His parent’s money still flowed to his pockets, so he was privileged. It wasn’t until he got to his late 20s before his mind began to wake up, we might attribute that the slow growth on the part of his mind, but that would be us, making excuses for him. But by then it was almost late, his mates that worked harder when they were much younger had begun reaping their fruits. But he was there without any fruit, not even rotten one, no single fruits, so what sort of miracle could he hope? Then as if it was a planned heist by the universe, his parents called him one day. He was informed that they were cutting his monthly stipends. He was irresponsible, they told him. He didn’t make a big deal out of it. After all, he knew friends who were making money. All he had to do was, meet up. So that very day, he moved out of his parent’s house, moved in with friends, followed their “smooth” path of making money, which was internet fraud. He delved into it; his only motivation was “to prove my parents wrong.” At first, he began to cash out, large lumps of money, and he said to himself, “I have arrived” yes, his objective was achieved, but then just like the weather seasons changed, he ran out of luck. He and his friends had scored a huge deal, and soon after, they were arrested and probed. Still, due to his parent’s wealth and influence, he was able to scale out of the investigation while his friends went to jail. Then he was back to the beginning, his parent’s house, he became the prodigal son, but instead, his parents weren’t excited to see him. Every day he spent in the house was like a day spent in hell, his folks insulted him, his siblings avoided him like the plague. Soon he was banished to the back of the house to prevent visitors from seeing the shameful son.
While in exile, Segun began to think retrospectively, about his life, the decisions that made him who he was today and his failures, he felt drained. Then one particular day, he was on YouTube, bored and searching for what to watch he stumbled on a message, “HOPE.” The word drew him, and he found himself watching, that would be marking the beginning of the turning point in his life. God gave him a second chance. He began to study the word of God, prayed often, and got the clarity of his purpose on earth. Then Segun started becoming more productive, enrolling for online courses and degrees, learning any skills he could lay his hands. Also, he began becoming useful in his family, helping out on family occasions, and becoming responsible. He severed ties with his former self and old friends who refused to change their ways, and all these happened within three years. By the time he was 35, Segun had moved out of his parent’s house, with their blessings, this time, of course. Started his own art business, derived from his talents and passion for being an artist/sculptor, preached the gospel of God, and was about getting married to an amazing woman. Every single day, his parents show how proud they’re of their first son. It is also important to note that he was still not his “Mate’s mate.” He was ahead of many of his mates; everyone calls him “Segun Hope” because he goes around telling people, that hope was his superpower. At a time in his life when things were hopeless, and he couldn’t see anything. He had prayed to God about giving him the spirit of hope to persevere, in anticipation of the things he’s about to do in his life. Although during the process of transformation, Segun recalls, “I got tired and sometimes relapsed.” Still, he remained hopeful that his life was changing, he didn’t lose his vision, and he worked extra hard. He knew that he was an underdog, and because of his past actions, his chances of being successful were low and non-existent, but still, he remained hopeful. So, in concluding this story, I want you to ask yourself this question, “Do I believe hope is my superpower?”.
Sometimes, our life might not even make sense at the moment, and we might feel we are too old or too young for God to bless, but the truth is that God isn’t time-specific, he can turn your life around in a second. We must never lose sight of the future, no matter whatever challenges you may be going through as a person present. And however, bleak your life might seem, as a result of your pasts actions or habits, I can assure you that, the moment you accept God. You believe in his promises while being hopeful, although it may wait it would surely come pass.
NOTE: This story is purely fictional; no part or character represents any individual dead or alive; it is solely for the inspirational purpose. Thank you, and God bless you.
Though it tarries, wait for it. It would surely come, it would not delay.
This message, although not easy to adapt to, is needed. I pray God gives us the grace to hope in Him even when everything seems bleak.
I appreciate this post. Thank you!
